I have always liked the look of a martini side table.

The sticker-shock on some of these beauties is pretty intense.  As you might know by now, I try to re create most of my favorite looks for dirt cheap and this project is no exception.

While it’s not an exact match, it costs a fraction of the original and is made from items you probably have on hand.

All of our planters are currently being used for their intended purposes around the backyard so I picked up two new ones at HD for $5.97 each.  They are 12″ in diameter. I also grabbed two clay saucers also 12′” in diameter.

I ran a pretty thick line of glue around the bottom.  As you can see my planters have these bumps on the bottom which “interlocked” when I put the other planter on top of this one.

Set your other planter on top of this one and make sure it’s centered.  Place something heavy inside to really set the glue properly.

Once the glue was dry, I gave the entire piece a couple coats of black acrylic paint with my new fav stuff!

No need to spray the inside of your planters as you won’t see them.  Be sure to spray the inside of one saucer and the bottom of the other.  One will be the base to add some stability and the other will be the top.

Voila!  In a matter of two hours [dry time for the glue] you now have a new side table.

I also had the idea of adding some handles to the top saucer so I could remove it and serve drinks to guests!  You can also use the top planter as storage for entertaining items that you don’t always want to see [ie, napkins, silverware, cups, etc.]  The possibilities are endless!

I might make a few more but use planters in varying sizes.  You’re only limited by your imagination.
